Damavand & Rainier by Keiman Mahabadi

“Mountains, in their usual form, are symbols of strength, stability and majesty; but to feel these, one must either stand on their summits or look at them from a distance. To the one who is climbing, the mountain is merely a massive collection of rocks though. Rocks are only obstacles. They don’t remind us of strength and stability. It’s only their stacking together that carries such an impact.

For me, regrets are similar to the rocks and a pile of them, aggregated over the years, is a mountain. The vision that each of us had imagined in our minds to set our goals and next steps, now stands before us like a mound of rocks and boulders, blocking our way. It is still and tranquil, but ready to erupt and capable of swallowing us.

As always, my solution for grasping complexity is painting. I've painted many mountains, small and large, and with each stroke I applied, I’ve realized that some things must be accepted as they are and that it is this acceptance that can prepare me for climbing the next rock.
Two of my mountains are here to be seen in Seattle 10,000 km away from where I painted them.”
